Migrating off Lotus Notes

Postby danisem » Tue May 09, 2006 5:25 pm

We have decided to replace our Lotus Notes systems. (approx. 175 users) We have no more use for the database functionalities, just email and calendaring, but we need to be able to have group calendaring and a corporate address book that could include email and contact info for people outside of our company. We would also like the simplicity of using Outlook or a web browser to handle these functions. We have other linux servers for other applications and want to implement these on linux as well. Can anyone with Lotus Notes experience give some insight to how well Scalix can fit the bill?

I can't speak about the migration process but if you're currently using the Notes client (which I have the misfortune to have to do regularly - v4.x) then I think your users are going to love you for making the switch.

Hi,

migrating off of Lotus Notes is as straightforward as it is with Exchange.

Group scheduling is a core function of Scalix and you will find it as easy to use as Notes. We support Outlook as a Windows client with our Service provider, so you can use a regular Outlook client against a Scalix server. People wont be able to tell the difference. People using a web browser and SWA will also think they are using Outlook, it's that similar.

To ease migration, setup a LDAP synchronisation between Notes and Scalix. On the Notes side, nothing more than "load ldap" is required. On the Scalix side, a synchronisation agreement needs to be set up, but we'll do that when you get there.

For migration of messages I would recommend imapsync, it's free, fast and faultless. It does not migrate calendar data, though. http://directory.fsf.org/imapsync.html

I might be biased, but I have 13yrs of Notes under my belt dating back to Notes 3.1

Cheers,

Sascha.

We have the same setup as danisem and I tried the imapsync script from notes to scalix it seems the folder hierarchy is not maintained while mail transfer so all sub folders of folders become sub folder of Inbox. There are also some erros while tranfering mails so all mails are not transfered. Isnt there any scalix plugin for migration between notes to scalix. Also the imapsync script takes users one at a time and if there are many users then all has to be done manually.
