internet mail gateway stopped working

Yesterday our Internet Mail Gateway stopped working, reading

an error message I get from /var/log/maillog:

Oct 27 11:29:41 scalix sendmail[6317]: k9R9TfOi006317: root@localhost did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to stdin


I know that there are other existing threads discussing this error, but I found no help in them. My company is in endproduction on a special right now and noone can send their mails out and people getting mails from the elder pop-server (redirect from scalix) not even get mail. And I am close to hang myself cause I can't do anything, even setting up a legacy mailsystem would not help much cause of the 2000 mails lost in the scalix server!

That particular message tends to indicate spam is getting through. Spammers do not tend to comply with the RFC and the gateway generates this warning. I haven't seen this prohibit mail from flowing.

Check the status of the Internet gateway with "omstat -s". You can stop and restart it with, "omoff -d 0 internet" and "omon internet".

BTW, can you translate the top few lines of the message to english?

well, at the moment scalix is sending out messages again, but it still doesn't work right.

After reading "Internet Mail Gateway- help" I changed

/var/opt/scalix/sys/unix.mapper
from
transport-service = /usr/sbin/sendmail -bs
into
transport-service = /usr/sbin/sendmail -bs -X/tmp/scalix-sendmail.log

to enable logging to see what happens. Right at the moment I enabled the logging, scalix started to send mails to internet. Later I changed the line back, just to notice that scalix stopped sending mails to internet again. Now I have logging enabled with a cronjob to deleted the log-file ever 24 hours. I thought about sending the log to /dev/null, but I have no clue what will happen to the mails, when I do so...

I have more then 700 mails in the queue does someone have a clue how to get this thing running again?
