IMAP authentication mechanism unimplemented

Postby nwilson » Mon Jun 12, 2006 5:22 am

Hi guys,

I've got two installations of Scalix both installed exactly the same way, but one seems to work perfectly with IMAP and the other doesn't.

When I run the commands below on my other installation, it authenticated perfectly, but the one below just doesn't seem to work.

suse:~ # telnet localhost 143
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
* OK Scalix IMAP server 10.0.1.3 ready on suse.domain.co.za
a01 login user@domain.tv blabla
a01 NO LOGIN authentication mechanism unimplemented

I'm trying to setup Outlook to use IMAP, and it won't work on this Scalix installalation, and yet works perfectly on the other one.

Below is the output from my Scalix status.

suse:~ # /etc/rc.d/scalix status
suse daemons
PC Monitor Started NON-STOP 0
Directory Relay Server Started 06.09.06
Notification Server Started 06.09.06 0
Shared memory daemon Started NON-STOP
Notification Monitor Started NON-STOP
Session Monitor Started NON-STOP
Container Access Monitor Started NON-STOP
Item Structure Server Stopped
Database Monitor Started 06.09.06
Licence Monitor Daemon Started NON-STOP
LDAP Daemon Started 06.09.06
Queue Manager Started NON-STOP
Item Delete Daemon Started NON-STOP
IMAP Server Daemon Started 06.09.06
SMTP Relay Started 06.09.06
Mime Browser Controller Started 06.09.06

Thanks any help will be appreciated.

Regards.

Hi,

I am assuming this is a 64bit install and you are missing the 32bit SASL libraries.

Cheers,

Sascha.

Correct,

Linux suse 2.6.13-15-default #1 Tue Sep 13 14:56:15 UTC 2005 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

These are my cyrus libraries that I have installed already.

cyrus-sasl-plain-2.1.21-3
cyrus-sasl-saslauthd-2.1.21-3
cyrus-sasl-crammd5-2.1.21-3
cyrus-sasl-32bit-2.1.21-3
cyrus-sasl-digestmd5-2.1.21-3
cyrus-sasl-2.1.21-3
perl-Authen-SASL-Cyrus-0.12-2

I've soft linked my libraries as follows under /opt/scalix/lib/security/ to their 64bit versions, because the links were broken to the 32bit ones.

libcrammd5.so -> /usr/lib64/sasl2/libcrammd5.so
libdigestmd5.so -> /usr/lib64/sasl2/libdigestmd5.so
liblogin.so -> /usr/lib/sasl2/liblogin.so
libplain.so -> /usr/lib64/sasl2/libplain.so

Should I not have done this, should I rather have installed the 32bit cyrus-sasl-digestmd package?

Exactly, please install the 32bit libs. Otherwise, it cannot work.

Cheers,

Sascha.

I had to force the removal of the 64bit ones, and then install the 32bit versions.
It's now working perfectly.

These are the only packages I needed to do this to if anyone would like to know.

cyrus-sasl-crammd5
cyrus-sasl-digestmd5
cyrus-sasl-plain

Thanks for the very speedy assistance.

Cheers!
