send message and header-information (send log)

Postby Jens » Sun May 21, 2006 6:00 am

If I want to check the correct delivery of a message (not every message system notifies the status back) I would like to select the header and see what happens during the transmission. So I know it from other e-mail tools.

Therefore my question:
Is there any way to transfer the sendmail-log-information to the message header of the related sent message?
Not every user is permitted to have access to the sendmail log, so he has no chance to ceck the transmission.
By the way: even if I have the permission it's a pain/struggle.

Any ideas? Thanks

Hello,

other than enabling the SMPTd debug log there is auditing that you can enable. This will generate auditing information appended to /var/opt/scalix/logs/audit in the form of

For accurate message status information, you will need to peruse the sendmail log file as the authoritative source for outbound messages.

To configure auditing, use omconfaud. To get more information, type man omconfaud

If you are thinking of message status notification, use the appropriate flags in your email client.

Cheers.

Sascha.
