Problems sending emails

Postby adamlevoi » Fri May 19, 2006 12:24 pm

Hi,

Recently started using scalix on FC4 with multiple email domains. domain 1 was working fine (sending & recieving) on webmail and Outlook connect, we used this domain to get the whole system up and running then imported pst into users mailboxes and all worked fine.

I was then happy to move the mx record for domain 2 over to the new scalix server since this has been done i have recieved all messages for all users but only been able to send mail to other scalix users and one other person, the usual testers hotmail, gmail & yahoo were tested but result in non delivery and an error back to the user.

Hi Adam,

On your Scalix server type:

Code: Select all

nslookup

then at the > prompt, type:

Code: Select all

set type=mx
yahoo.co.uk

and you should see something like:

Code: Select all

Non-authoritative answer:
yahoo.co.uk     mail exchanger = 10 mx1.mail.ukl.yahoo.com.
yahoo.co.uk     mail exchanger = 20 mx2.mail.ukl.yahoo.com.

If that works, then type:

Code: Select all

telnet mx1.mail.ukl.yahoo.com 25

and you should see something like:

Code: Select all

Trying 195.50.106.7...
Connected to mxa.mail.ukl.yahoo.com (195.50.106.7).
Escape character is '^]'.
220 mta130.mail.ukl.yahoo.com ESMTP YSmtp service ready

If you get a failure on any of the steps above, post the results here.

Thanks,
Rachel

Hi Adam,

So the first part (DNS) is where the problem lies. Either your DNS isn't configured properly or the DNS server you're using isn't configured properly. Check your /etc/resolv.conf file and make sure you have the correct DNS servers listed. Right now you have 10.0.0.138 configured, but that server doesn't seem to be able to find yahoo.co.uk.

Thanks,
Rachel

Thanks for your help, that now does the nslookup part correctly but still does not deliver mail for domain 2 (our main domain)

I think it is getting close however as i changed one of the accounts to domain 1 this account can then send mail to a hotmail address.

So i am not sure exactly what the problem is but there must be some setup that we did earlier for domain1 which i have not done for the other domain. Would you have any idea what this could be.

Kind Regards
Adam
