Scalix 11 Community Edition Preview

Postby Glenn Winokur » Thu Aug 17, 2006 9:48 pm

Hello Scalix Community,

As all of you hopefully know by now, we made a preview release of Scalix 11 Community Edition available to you this week. :D

Here is a link to the actual press release if you have not seen it yet:

We've already had close to 2,000 downloads in the past few days - thank you for your enthusiastic response!

Knowing that most people don't like to be the only member of a club, we've been very active promoting Scalix, recently completing an extensive number of briefings for the press and analyst community. Here's a few of my favorite articles that were posted this week:

I know many of you have had questions on the following topics:

1. When will Scalix 11 be generally available?

2. I am confused by what's going to be in Community Edition moving forward?

2. a. I am a Community Edition user, will I lose functionality that I already regularly use?

Florian, Dave, Yuri and others have been busy trying to provide you answers, but I'd like to also address:

1. General Availability of Scalix 11 is planned for Q4 of this year. Those final decisions are always dependent on how smoothly the testing cycles proceed, and one way you can all be of great help is putting the recently released preview through it's paces in your test labs as soon as you can. I think you all realize how much we've packed into this release - we would love as much feedback as possible. In another couple of weeks, you should expect to see a version of Scalix 11 that is closer to beta quality (and include additional promised Scalix 11 features which time prevented us from including in the preview) and when that is released we will also encourage you to test test and test.

2 (and 2.a). We have no plans to remove functionality from existing users of Community Edition. However, we are still working though some details as it relates to packaging issues, which is why we have been providing somewhat confusing answers. Please give us a couple of weeks to iron out those details, but there should be no surprises.

Please continue to let us know what questions you have on our plans and what suggestions you have for how you'd like to see things.

Cheers,

Glenn
