Scalix with external IMAP server

Postby jschlinker » Thu Jan 17, 2008 10:23 am

Hi,

I already have my own IMAP-Server set up and I'm think about the following 2 scenarios:

1. Setting up Scalix on server 1 and integrating an external IMAP server (debian+cyrus) on server 2.

2. Setting up Scalix on server 1 and integrating an already existing version of cyrus on the same server.

Is there any chance that one of the 2 things stated above works?
I put a lot of work and thought building up the server (debian, fetchmail, procmail (including a lot of rules), spamassasssin, IMAPs with TLS ...), that's why I don't want to through it all away.
Second thing is that I'm thinking about the possibility to change from Scalix to some other software and I don't want to change my mail server then.

If this is the wrong forum group, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Juergen

Scalix uses its own internal mail store format, so integrating it directly with a third-party store provider can't be done. Also, SWA uses its own IMAP extensions to do collaboration that is not recognised by other IMAP servers, and Outlook in MAPI mode doesn't use IMAP at all, so even if you get it to work you will cut down your client choice quite a lot.

Hmm,

so if I want to "save" my existing mail server the only solution would be to use a tool that can sync two IMAP-Servers.
Does anybody know if something like this exists?
This way I could use my own IMAP mail server for fetching mails, sorting, creating folders ...
and the tool would be scheduled every hour to sync the changes (new mail, new folders ...) to the SCALIX-IMAP-Server.

Any ideas?

imapsync can possibly do it, though I would be wary of using it for that. Could work though. Also, that way your mail will always be lagging behind, something I quickly get complained at for, but it depends on your setup.

Be careful to consider both sides, though - it's fine to use imapsync to populate Scalix with, but what happens with moved/deleted mail on the Scalix server? You will have to be careful to make sure mail doesn't get deleted / duplicated incorrectly.
