Resource not booked if type not set to resource

Postby bbryan » Thu Jan 03, 2008 7:55 pm

When adding a resource to the list of attendees when creating a meeting, if the type is not explicitly set to "resource" the meeting gets created but the resource doesn't really get booked. This can be duplicated in webmail and Outlook.

Is there a way to default resources to use "resource" instead of "required attendee" as the type?

We're using 11.2.

Thanks.

Ben,

When creating a meeting - you should see three listings when you click 'to' on the appointment tab.

Required, Optional, Resources.

In the required/optional field, put in the users and then for resources put in the room that you want booked -

then it will show up as a resource and item will be booked.

Thanks, but the problem is that is way too much for users to remember. It's a usability issue. I don't see why it should be possible to set a Resource to required or optional if those two options don't work ...and there's no error to indicate any issues so users falsely assume it was booked and we end up with scheduling conflicts.

Even if defaulting a resource to be booked as a resource was possible that would help. E.g. If I double-click a room it shouldn't add itself to Required but to Resources, and if I type resource name it's type should be resource...but it defaults to required attendee.

Ben,

I see what you are saying - users are booking the rooms as users and not in the resources tab.

Our users are basically used to it - but I do get your point.

That's right. Thanks. I'll wait a few days and see if someone from Scalix posts anything, if not I'll send it to support, I would consider it a usability bug, but I'm not sure if its a problem with Scalix or Outlook. I am curious to know how it would behave with Exchange.

Hi.

We have this issue also and it does cause duplication sometimes - however, it is more of an Outlook issue - how does Exchange handle this?

Thanks.
Andrew.
