Multiple Instances

Postby Marcus.Becker » Fri Nov 30, 2007 6:16 am

Hello!
We are planning to use an Enterprise edition server. Currently I'm using a trial license.

How do I set up multiple instances? I already searched the forum and the documentation.

This is my third entry to the forum. My hope is, that this time someone will answer my question...

Regards
Marcus

For that I would suggest you speak to Scalix pre-sales technical support. I am sure your reseller can liaise with them. They will be able to point out any pitfalls and such.

That said, you can use ommakeom to create the new instance(s).

Can I ask why you want to run multiple instances? The only reason I could come up with so far in a single enterprise is a split address book, which addressed in the ASP version. Multiple instances are fairly heavy on resources (you need to run a separate copy of each Scalix service/daemon).

Hello!
Well, that was a quick answer. Thank you!
We provide service for a couple of clients. To retire our old system, I tested SCALIX and found it fitting to our needs. Now one client (who pays for the system) wants a dedicated login page (with own logo etc). Using instances seemed a good solution for this while also having the benefit of a separate address book.
The machine I use has 2 IP addresses and 2 entries in DNS. I used ommakeom, but only part of the subdirectories I know from the first instance were created. Most are missing.

Upon your suggestion I'll write my pre-sales contact an e-mail. He's quite hard to reach and I'm a bit under pressure here. So I hoped for some quick help when I asked my question here...

I checked the installer again, and it has a --instance parameter. I believe this will do everything you want. Delete the new instance and create it with this flag.

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to do the job...
Another parameter is --hostname. I use it combined with --instance but after choosing [1] from the list, the installer coplaints that there is no new software in the directory I gave him. Seems as if the installer recognizes the already installed first instance and wants to only upgrade this one...
