user not recivine email

Postby thevulture » Wed Oct 31, 2007 7:38 pm

Hi i have a user whom has stopped receiving email.
The person normally get there email using pop and mail on os x.

if I log on to there account using web mail i do not see any email.
if i tail the maillog i see the following

delay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=32157, dsn=4.4.3, stat=queued

nothing on the server has changed

Following some instructions I found in the forum i did the following

omstat -s && omstat -a
omshut -t 3
omreset -o off all

the problem still persists. how can i fix this?

cheers

1) login to SWA as sxadmin and check if some message related to this user is sitting in the inbox.
2) do a tail -f on /var/opt/scalix/xx/s/logs/audit and check if something happens while you login as the troubled account and send an email to yourself. At the same time open another shell and do a tail -f on /var/mail/maillog and check if the email from that user to itself is in fact being sent.

You can then expand the "debug mode" around the above basics, such as login to sac and check the messages on the queue, and so on.

Be aware of anti-virus, or some accidental sxaa redirect command.

Thanks for you reply
I have done tha above.
point 1, no mail in inbox. i can send email but a reply to that email is not shown.

Nothing is in the audit log,
the log message in maillog is:
Nov 1 11:22:34 server sendmail[26222]: lA18JxqC026222: to=<xxxx@xxxx.xx.xx>, delay=00:01:15, mailer=esmtp, pri=30824, dsn=4.4.3, stat=queued

I have loged in to the SAC console. every service is running and every queue has a ques of 0.

What else can I do to get this working?

Cheers.

1) First off, follow this post to check you DNS issues:
viewtopic.php?t=9187#41691

2) Go to SAC and list exactly all the difference email formats for this particular user:
userID@domain.com, userID@scalix.domain.com, first.last@domain.com, first.last@scalix.domain.com, etc.

3) Be sure the "domain.com" and "scalix.domain.com" parts are included in the /etc/mail/local-host-names and the /var/opt/scalix/xx/s/sys/smtpd.cfg files

4) since the scalix queue is empty, that is a very good indication scalix is not recognizing the email you *believe* to be correct as an *internal* scalix user (check for typo mistakes). So the natural reaction of scalix is to pass the message to the external MTA (Mail Transfer Agent), usually sendmail or postfix.

5) sendmail in turn has it's own queue. Why? because it can act as the MTA for several clients, servers for which it's the smarhost as well as the scalix server itself. Assuming you're using sendmail, normal entries in the /var/log/maillog are Message Sent:OK or message accepted for delivery. Since sendmail reports the message is being queued that is not a good sign. Again, that lead to a problem either with DNS or a typo mistake on the supposed email address.
