using warmspare as a backup source

Postby foton » Mon Sep 17, 2007 4:20 pm

Hi!

I wonder if I can use warmspare as my backup(using sxmboxexp) source? I'm rsyncing scalix server to another hardware and it would be nice if I could use this second machine for backups. So far I'm facing the following issues:
1) I'm not 100% sure about data integrity on warmspare. It might need at least omscan before backup
2). I found no way to start minimum set of services/daemons on warmspare just to allow backup/omscan to run. I dont want to start full scalix server there since it might confuse other nodes in the infrastructure with dir/bb/sync messages or messages left in outgoing queues
3) Maybe something else why I should not do this?

Hi,

This is my plan also, to set up a secondary box where I have 100% the same OS+Scalix installation.

Then on the primary box I do LVM snapshot, mount it, rsync over to the spare backup server, unmount it again.

I have a Tandberg 8-tape Ultrium robot that will be attached into the 2ndary box, and recently I've been looking into SEP sesame as the possible backup software on the warmspare box. But it's all "on the drawing table" stil and all comments and experiences will help me on the way, so keep them coming! :)

Thanks,
Kimmo
