Enable working VRFY?

Postby hklygre » Tue Jun 26, 2007 1:15 pm

Hi,

we've got an external incoming mailserver that does antivirus and antispam. As part of antispam it uses VRFY to the internal mailserver to see if the mail is deliverable, so it can reject instead of bounce (possibly to the wrong server).

Is it possible to get VRFY to work as intended with Scalix as the internal server? If i turn it on in sendmail.cf it responds with 252 as long as the address is welformed, no matter whether it works or not.

I know I can use LDAP to do the lookup, but the setup today is to use VRFY, and I'd like to change as little as possible on the external relay. (I'm still going to relay some domains to other internal mailservers which don't use LDAP).

Thanks,
HÃ¥vard

What's in your Scalix server's /etc/mail/local-host-names?

I'd assume nothing. You need to populate that with the correct domain info, and you should be fine.

Kev.

Thanks, that takes me one step further - but it doesn't really work. It works for the main email-address, but not for any aliases. For aliases I get "user unknown" even if the alias exists (and delivery works).

Additionally VRFY doesn't work from other computers, only from localhost - which config-file covers that?

Thanks,

HÃ¥vard

I'll just reply to myself: I can do the checking with RCPT TO, and that seems to work.

All OK!
