11.04 slow and rescource hungry

Postby nwilson » Mon May 21, 2007 9:15 am

Hi guys,

Since upgrading to Scalix 11.04 I've had complaints from a number of users about everything being slow in general, much slower than before the upgrade.

Below is a "snapshot" of my top output.

Apart from extremely high swap usage,(520MB) there is a process that uses 99% cpu utilisation every 15 seconds or so for about 5 seconds, and then dissapears again.

Tasks: 239 total, 2 running, 237 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie
Cpu(s): 3.4% us, 1.8% sy, 0.0% ni, 88.4% id, 6.2% wa, 0.1% hi, 0.1% si
Mem: 4040328k total, 3946948k used, 93380k free, 194820k buffers
Swap: 1052216k total, 521132k used, 531084k free, 1807240k cached

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
6336 root 15 0 94680 3708 2624 S 99.9 0.1 0:06.45 owcimomd
10614 60900 17 0 27120 6604 5168 R 2.7 0.2 0:04.34 in.imap41d
28731 postfix 17 0 133m 85m 3332 S 1.0 2.2 0:08.81 MailScanner
113 root 15 0 0 0 0 S 0.3 0.0 6:52.22 pdflush
17890 scalix 15 0 13740 3620 2868 S 0.3 0.1 1:49.10 omctmon
28873 60560 15 0 25184 6972 5212 S 0.3 0.2 5:20.69 ual.remote
10589 60900 17 0 27972 7760 5980 S 0.3 0.2 0:00.47 in.imap41d

This client has roughly 40 premium users, running Outlook on all of their PC's.

Has anyone else seen similar results since upgrading to 11.04?

Thanks.

Hi!

Result of top you sent:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
6336 root 15 0 94680 3708 2624 S 99.9 0.1 0:06.45 owcimomd

owcimomd, is not a Scalix command.

Can you confirm these:
- is postgres running correctly? (lsof -i :5733, ps -ef | grep postmaster)
- does your scalix-api logfile (in tomcat/logs) have any errors about trying to connect to the database?

Thanks,
Subir

Thanks for the reply.

i've discovered that this is actually the Openwbem daemon that is used for iManager.

Sorry for blaming Scalix it just sounds like one of the Scalix names :)

I'll get this resolved now.

Regards.
