Modify the primary mailnode

Postby rudi » Wed Nov 02, 2005 4:56 am

Hi,

how can I modify the primary mailnode. For example from middle, newyork to newyork, middle. All existting users also have to belong to the new mailnode.

The problem is, that we have to add a new Scalix Server to an existing Scalix System. The existing System have the mailnode middle, newyork. Or can I use for the new Scalix Server the mailnode east, newyork. So I don't have to change the mailnode on the existing Scalix System.

Thanks for help!

First, you will have to add the new mailnode. This can be done using SAC or using the omaddmn command.

Then, you will need to rename all your users to be part of the new mailnode. Unfortunately, this is currently only possible using the ommodu command. it basically looks like this:

ommodu -o "Florian User/old,mailnode" -n "Florian User/new,mailnode"

you will need to do the same thing with all your distribution lists, the command is ommodpdl.

After all users and PDLs have been removed from the old mailnode, you can set the new mailnode to be the primary. This is done with the ommodmn -t option.

Finally, you can delete the old mailnode using omdelmn.

Two additional things to watch out for:
1. If you have a multi-server environment with directory syncrhonisation (dirsync) setup, you will need to re-do the dirsync agreements as these carry the primary mailnode in their config.
2. if your users have old internal email in their mailboxes, they might become unrepliable because the old mailnode is stored as part of the FROM addresses in the messages. Your can work around this by adding a line reading SR_RESOLVE_MASK=4 to your /var/opt/scalix/sys/general.cfg config file and restarting the service router. this will try to lookup recipient addresses using the "first four" attributes in the X.400-style Scalix address, i.e. these are the G, I, S and Q (Given Name, Middle Initials, Surname, Generation Qualifier) attributes.

Hope this helps,
Florian.

Mailnod and Public Folders

Postby rudi » Mon Jan 02, 2006 11:16 am

Hi,

are the permissions for the public folders valid, after modify the mailnode for an user? Because when I made an "omshowacl -t bb -b 1522" the listed mailnode of the user is the old one. Or I have to change also the ACLs for the public folders?

Thanks for help!!

you will need to redo the permissions. permissions are based on X.400 naming attributes for a user of which the mailnode (in the form of OU1-OU4) is one.

You'll be able to script this, though, by using the omaddacln and related commands.

cheers,
Florian.

p.s. our support is working on a tool to make this easier; however, this is not available yet. Also, in a future release, we plan to move away from binding ACL permission to any naming information and use a GUID-based approach instead.
