Scalix Upgrades

Postby TRACKS » Wed May 09, 2007 2:24 pm

Is their a document produced by Scalix on the proper procedure to follow when doing upgrades such as 11.0.3 to 11.0.4?

It seams to me that peoples success in the upgrades greatly depends on the process the user went thought to upgrade.

Many of my questions are as follows:

Should Scalix be running during upgrade?
Should you tidy the mail store prior to upgrades?
Should any services be stopped prior to upgrading?
Should I cleanse cache after an upgrade?
Should I always create a new Outlook profile for users after upgrades?

Hi Tracks!

Have a look at the Upgrade Notices in the Release Notes at:
http://downloads.scalix.com/.community/ ... ml#upgrade

I am sure you would get all your answers here.

Thanks,
Subir

Subir,

Thanks I have previously reviewed this document. I believe this to be far too vague. I believe the Upgrade Notices to be more like statements about the upgrade which are useful. However, if their where steps or a procedure to follow I feel as that would be very beneficial. Have you noticed how many posts are on the forums about how did your upgrade go and if it went well what steps you took?

Hi Again!

I understand, I think the configurations that are entered should be valid ones, did you
have a chance to check the steps documented to upgrade Scalix in the installation guide
at page # 85, find the guide at:
http://www.scalix.com/documents/Scalix_ ... 11.0.1.pdf

I hope I am even more close to what you are looking for.

Should Scalix be running during upgrade?
No, scalix-installer has a check for the same, it is better to stop.
Should you tidy the mail store prior to upgrades?
Yes, for sure.
Should any services be stopped prior to upgrading?
Lets stop the Scalix Server.
Should I cleanse cache after an upgrade?
Not really, browser cache, yes.
Should I always create a new Outlook profile for users after upgrades?
This is what is recommended, depends on the Outlook Connector version you are upgrading from:
* When upgrading from Scalix 11.0.0 you should create new profiles for any clients using SmartCache to benefit from all fixes contained in Scalix 11.0.4
* When upgrading from Scalix 11.0.1, Scalix 11.0.2 or Scalix 11.0.2.1, you may need to create new profiles for all clients using SmartCache to benefit from all fixes contained in Scalix 11.0.4
* When upgrading from Scalix 11.0.3, there is no need to recreate Outook profiles or re-initialize the cache.

Hope this helps. Feel free to reply.

Thanks,
Subir
