Network Issues (DNS?)... Problem installing on Fedora Core 4

I'm trying to setup the Scalix "Community Edition" using the scalix installation "wizard".

I'm getting "network" errors:

1) Network check failed - Hosts file is not configured with fully qualified domain name (FQDN)

2) Network check failed - Could not find a host name in DNS that matches IP address

3) Network check failed - IP address '192.168.0.2' associated with host name 'Peter.themillikanssite.com' in DNS cannot be confirmed as this host's IP address.

Can you point me in the right direction for what I need to do to set this up.
I have one "internet" IP address and my machine is on a LAN that will be hosting the Scalix server. The router is routing the "internet" ip address (based on port #) packets to the local ip address '192.168.0.2'. So, anything info you can give me would be much appreciated!

I encountered the same problem. I am assuming you are logging into FC4 as a regular user then su to root? I tried that and could not install scalix. So I logged in as root and made sure my hosts file contained the ip address of the machine and the fqdn of my domain ie, 192.168.1.5 www.mydomain.com mydomain.com. Also I had to name the machine with a fqdn as well while I did the initial install. After several tries and different linux versions I figured out the name of the machine had to be a fqdn or scalix would keep giving me an error.

So, you basically had to set everything to the FQDN? Does Scalix work after that? Even the hostname? I have three registered domain names, I guess it doesn't matter which one I use and the ip address in the static ip address on the domain, right (not the address seen on the outside of the firewall/router)? Wow, that seems kinda messy to me. I'll start to try this and see where it gets me.

Looking at those lines and the fact that this is Fedora, please check your /etc/hosts first. Fedora easily puts your Fully qualified hostname as an alias on the loopback IP address 127.0.0.1; this is not correct.

Check that your ip address 192.168.0.2 has a line that looks like this in /etc/hosts
192.168.0.2 Peter.themillikanssite.com Peter
and that the 127.0.0.1 line ONLY contains localhost and loopback as names.

You might also want to check if DNS has the same information and then look in /etc/host.conf if "files" (i.e. /etc/hosts) is queried before DNS.

All in all, it looks like an inconsistent network configuration and should be relatively easy to fix.

You might also want to check out other posts in this forum w/rgds to the use of IPv6 which sometimes happens to be configured on FC4; this has nothing to do with your particular problem though.

Well, that worked. Now, how do I set it up after installation? Perhaps this is a subject for another forum. Also, can I somehow get my mail "cached" into Scalix from other POP3 servers?
