Question on SMTP Testing

Postby andrewc » Thu Nov 16, 2006 7:54 am

Hi Guys,

I am a bit new to the whole SCALIX, but I was wondering I am doing/will be doing some testing on a SMTP mail server. I was wondering could I test only one email account on an existing SMTP.

I am migrating from a MS exchange server to scailx system, and I was wondering if I connect to our ISP's SMTP will scalix automaticly download all of the emails stoered remotely for our domain xxxx.com ? and then will it distriubte the emails to the users.

To ensure minimal downtime etc. I would like to be test that scalix can connect to our isp's smtp server before everyone starts using the system.

I will be doing a flash migration... but I want to also keep the MS box alive through out the migration... Bascily I want to make sure that I dont loose any mail if im turning on/off both the exchange server and the scailx server..

Sorry If i made this sound more complex than it is!.... :)

Any ideas/help would be great

Thanks,
Andrew

How many users do you have?

I'd recommend creating all of the user mailboxes on the Scalix server, pointing email so it gets delivered to the Scalix server, and then using the migration tool to migrate the mailboxes. This will allow you to keep the MS server with no changes, as you are effectively abandoning it.
