Is a DNS server required to run the Scalix server?

Postby anders.ostling » Thu Jun 08, 2006 4:22 pm

Hi
I am trying to install the Community edition for evaluation purposes. I am using a pre-built vmware fedora core 4 server, but when I run the installation script, I get a network error (complains that my hostname does not match the dns name).

I have configired the virtual machine with "scalix" as hostname and a fixed IP address. I also added "scalix" to the /etc/hosts file, but that did not help. So whats the deal? Do I need to have a proper DNS configuratation (forward and reverse lookup working) in order to install scalix?

Thanks
Anders

Let me answer this myself. I found out that I need to have the fqdn _before_ the hostname in the /etc/hosts file (sigh). Now the installation passes the network check.
