Outbound Mail Failure -- New Install

Have Scalix install on FC4. I am able to recieve email ok but when I send it is not getting to external email.

It looks like it is communicating correctly with yahoo but the mail is not getting to the account. I got the same result sending to a hotmail account.

I am pulling my hair out. The DNS looks find since I can so a telnet to a out mail server and it resolves.

Sadly, a tcpdump isn't going to help here. We need to see some higher level traces.

Using the sendmail logs, can you see the message leave your server ?

I'm having a problem sending mail outside the domain as well. This is a new install which I am testing on a new Suse install.

I checked sendmail, and there's nothing in the logs there. It logs successful sends of mail inside the domain. I was able to send mail outside using sendmail from the shell.

When I click the send button, I can hear some activity on the server, and then a wee window pops up on my screen and says "Unable to send mail to: blah blah .. " I'm using the webmail interface at present. The mail I am trying to send then goes to the drafts folder.

This is probably due to relay accept lines in your smtpd.cfg found in /var/opt/scalix/sys. Add the ip address of your server above the relay reject all line. You'll have to restart the internet gateway with

omoff -d 0 internet
omon internet.

Can you give me an example? I added some based on a posting I found on the forum -- I thought it would help, until I saw the log file.

Hi. When you submit the message from SWA, is it accepted? If so, then your smtpd.cfg file is okay. The place to check is your /var/log/maillog files. What is that showing?

I modified my smtpd.cfg to look similar to the one posted by caracas ( I had already allowed 127.0.0.1 ), and outbound mail now works :D

Curiously, I noted that my system date was 12 hours ahead, and when I changed it back, webmail was locked out for an hour. It refused to accept the passwords.
