Rules not displaying in Outlook

Postby Jakes » Tue Jun 01, 2010 10:26 am

Hello all.

I have user who did not notice that her auto action rules stopped displaying in Outlook, she then created another rule over writing all the original rules. I restored the 000003d file from backup and the rules are working, they show correctly with sxaa and they display in SWA but the rules still do not display in Outlook.

The server version is 11.4.6 and I have tried connector versions 11.4.2 > 11.4.6 on the users PC. I have also tried creating her mail profile on a fresh Windows installation on a test PC with and with out a smart cache profile to no avail.

Has anybody got any suggestion on what else to try?

Thanks
Jakes

The Ruleswizard in Outlook does not look directly at the 3d-file. Instead it is using a hidden message in the Inbox of the user with the subject "Scalix Rules Data". It may worth a try to delete it by using omcontain while the mailbox owner is not using Outlook.
I am not sure if it helps, but it will definitely not making things worse than before.

Interesting, there is no "Scalix Rules Data" message for this user. I created a test account and copied my own 000003d file into the new account before accessing the profile for the first time with Outlook. There was no "Scalix Rules Data" message visible with omcontain. On first access Outlook crashed and on second access it asked if I wanted to disable the Scalix rules wizard and I selected No. There were no rules in the Scalix Rules wizard and after creating a rule the "Scalix Rules Data" message was visible with omcontain but the 000003d was over written.

I suppose the question is how to either repopulate the "Scalix Rules Data" message from the 000003d file or restore the "Scalix Rules Data" message from a backup. Any ideas or suggestions?

Update

At the suggestion of our reseller I am going to do a full server install and extract the "Scalix Rules Data" message from the user’s mailbox and restore it to her current mailbox. I will post the results when I get a chance to try this out.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction ls-al, this is now resolved. I followed the following procedure:

Restored a complete Scalix backup
Extracted the hidden Outlook rules file from users mailbox (omcontain for dref & sxmboxexp)
Backed up and deleted the 000003d file on the current Scalix server
Deleted the current (was created while trying to resolve issue) hidden Outlook message (omcontain)
Restored the extracted hidden Outlook message (sxmboximp)
Created a new rule and saved to repopulate the 000003d from a non smart cache profile
Rules still did not display on users laptop until smart cache was reset
