group mailboxes?

We're currently using an email platform that we're not real happy with. Imail.

Exchange might be out of my company's range, however i come from a company that had exchange and i'm use to the group mailbox feature whereby you could have a general mailbox and give multiple users access to it by adding it as a secondary mailbox in their profile. You can do this with IMAIL but it does a poor job. It uses imap and caches the headers instead of using MAPI to integrate with outlook.

Does Scalix support group mailboxes?

It's easy to give multiple people delegate access to a mailbox that they "share". Scalix supports it well, and it's well documented. Generally it's used so that (for example) the president's email can be monitored by his assistant. But it's the same idea.

Personally though, for what you want, I would recommend setting up a public folder, and having an inbound email go into there. This is easier, because the end users wouldn't need to open a second mailbox. It also would mean that messages would be marked NEW on an individual basis, rather than the first person to read it making it a READ message.

The only down side I've seen is that Scalix doesn't support changing the "from" header, (not via a MAPI connection anyway (I can do it in Kmail, but I only have an IMAP connection then)), so if the message comes into a public folder, any replies will be sent as the person who authors the reply, rather then the email address associated with the public folder. Often though, this doesn't actually matter.

That's great news! I downloaded 3 other email platforms including kerio mail and none of them supported a group mailbox.

Actually, having the email go into public folders would be even better. I'll have to download a copy and try it out.

I'm new to Linux as well, so i'm sure i will be posting more questions.

Best way to avoid a lot of questions is to read the install guide, which is pretty comprehensive ;)

There is also a "testing guide". I haven't seen it for a few versions, but it does a good job of laying out some testing requirements for various email platforms, and then it walks you through the tests.

I've found that it also does a GREAT job of showing people how to actually set up each of the different pieces of their mail system. At the end of the testing, you know that Scalix will meet your needs, and you also know how to set up some of the things like shared folders, and groups. I'd recommend asking your sales rep for it, even if it's designed for an older version of Scalix, it'll still be extremely useful.

How would you go about autimaticlly forwarding/moving email baised of criteria to a public folder..(server side) or could you please point me to the correct location in the admin guide.. I just can't seem to find it. Thank you

Above is a info I found in the how to section in the knowledge base. I think this is what I want but I can't seem to get it to work. can any one shed some light on this?
