Emails from Crikey.com cause Outlook crash

Daily news subscription emails from Crikey.com consistently cause Outlook to crash. This only occurs when using Scalix Outlook Connector, not when using webmail or Outlook with an IMAP connection.

The same issue was raised in this forum in April 2007 without resolution (http://www.scalix.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6883). I have posted this as a new topic with a more specific topic heading.

In particular, trying to open (or do anything else to) a Crikey.com daily email often causes Outlook to display one or more dialogue boxes stating: "Connection Recovery. Restoring your connection to the Scalix server. This may take a few moments..."

Our system:
Scalix 11.4.3 on CENTOS 5.3
Outlook connector [edit] 11.2
Outlook: XP/2002 and 2003 running on Windows XP-SP3

I suspect that the Scalix connector may not like some part of the construction of Crikey's emails.

Any ideas or solutions would be appreciated.

I have just upgraded the Outlook Connector from 11.2 to 11.4.3, but that did not help.

Any ideas?

a lot of outlook crashing issues can be due to plugins. various plugins like itunes, desktop search and some antivirus plugins all wreak havoc with the scalix connector in 11.4.3.

11.4.4 carries a significant number of fixes, two of which include fixes for itunes and desktop search plugin compatibility.

What Outlook Plugins are active under "Com Add-ins"?

Also really recommend you go up to 11.4.4 on server and client.

If the problem persists after upgrade you may need to file a bug or open a support case with scalix.

Just got the first one today, opened fine. I'm on 11.4.4 & Outlook 2003.

One machine has Outlook 2003, with no COM addins. The "general" Add-in Manager shows the various Scalix extensions, plus Exchange Extensions property pages and Chapura settings.

Another machine has Outlook XP, with the Google Desktop COM addin. The "general" Add-in Manager shows the various Scalix extensions, plus Exchange Extensions property pages and Google Desktop. Unfortunately, disabling the non-Scalix addins did not help.

OK, best bet now is to upgrade to 11.4.4 on server and client.

This problem has now been resolved.

After considerable investigation from Scalix support, the problem was solved when we upgraded the server to version 11.4.5. This solved the error, even before we updated the Outlook Connector.
