FireFox 3 Beta

Postby kmcelwain » Tue May 13, 2008 3:11 pm

There was no SOAP-ENV:Body in the xml payload sent by the server.

Got this message trying to log into 10.0.1.6 using the new FireFox beta 3. Just a heads up.

Even in Scalix 11 Fiirefox 3 is not supported and does give issues. This is quite uderstandable, as Firefox itself is still not stable enough to be made into a GA at this point, and Scalix needs to do development to fit in the new model. So Scalix 10 will likely never support Firefox 3, that will only happen in one of the upcoming Scalix 11 releases.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I was really posting more as a warning to users that might be thinking about trying out the new Fox....it does have some pretty neat changes.

FF3b5 works fine with Scalix 11.4 and is marked as 'supported' (although the usual warnings about using Beta software apply). The changes needed to support it were quite substantial and will not be backported to any previous release of Scalix.

I would be interested - out of curiosity - what you are referring to when talking about neat features. I found a couple things work faster and the memory footprint be generally smaller - other things are way slower, e.g. I particularly dislike the browse history now containing extended information piling up and sub-URLs of large websites, especially those using JavaScript/AJAX being recorded in the history as well, so at least as of Beta 5, I am not really convinced and prefer my 2.0.0.14.

Cheers,
Florian.

Is there any way to get Scalix 9's web mail to work with Firefox 3?

And, as a side note, webmail in scalix 9 doesn't work with IE8 either ("Error Report: Invalid argument.").

No. FF people have changed way too much and it requires code change. Scalix 9 and Scalix 10 are no longer maintained for new features, of which this is one.

What stops you from moving to Scalix 11?

Oh bugger! Wish I had read this before I installed Firefox 3! Sigh... guess we will have to get a move on and get 11.4 installed.

We're on 11.0.4 and FF3 doesn't work for us :(

We're working on an upgrade path to get to 11.4 but it includes rebuilding the entire box and moving our 132G mailstore to a secondary server in the process.

Any known work-arounds for making 11.0.4 FF3 friendly?

nope. the changes that went into 11.4 to support it were quite substantial code changes.

I got the same issue with FF3 final and 11.2.0.52. But a simple workaround is using IE tab to log into scalix with FF. OK I know most people will dislike this solution, but as a Web developer, I like IE Tab and have no problems using it for my scalix web access.
