Scalix and LDAP

Postby jacky18 » Mon Feb 25, 2008 3:29 am

Hi all
:D

I understood that scalix comes with it's own LDAP server. What happens if I actually do have a LDAP (Active Directory) myself and would like Scalix to retrieve the info from it?

Does Scalix Community edition does it?

On top of that,

1. how do I actually backup Scalix email accounts?
2. Is it ok to run Scalix in VMWare Server?

Thanks.

You backup the filesystem with a backup tool. Just ensure Scalix is not running, or you are backing up a mirror/snapshot.

To integrate Scalix with an LDAP server, look at omldapadd. You will need to add corresponding attributes in the remote LDAP to hold the Scalix info. The SBE/EE/ASPE ships with a tool to automate this, CE does not.

VMWare works, but only for a few users. You will soon run into disk performance issues.

putting in a fresh install of FC7

Can the Scalix LDAP be used by every LDAP client pc on the LAN, even those without any other connection to the FC7 running Scalix ?

As long as there's no firewalls or similar, then yes, it can. However, it depends what kind of information you want get out, as it only stores mail server info.
