Mozilla Lightning Errors...

Postby billb3 » Tue Oct 14, 2008 4:09 pm

I am using Thunderbird 2.0.0.17 and Lightning .9...

The calendar starts to load, but not everything...
Warning: There has been an error reading data for calendar: Scal. However, this error is believed to be minor, so the program will attempt to continue. Error code: READ_FAILED. Description:

Has anyone else gotten this?

Or is there any easy way to find the item that is causing errors?

Is there anything related reported in the tomcat logs on the server?
/var/opt/scalix/??/tomcat/logs/
especially scalix-api.log and scalix-api-activity.log
omshowlog output may also contain useful information.

Regards,
Gren.

When I got errors in Thunderbird, didn't see any new data in those log files...

I reverted to Lightning 0.8 and things are working normally again...

The lightning plugin supports two boolean preferences :
calendar.debug.log (Lightning 0.8 and later I believe)
calendar.debug.log.verbose (Lightning 0.9 and later I believe)

If you add these (they are not there by default) with a value of true in your preferences General/Advanced/Config Editor, then after a restart a lot of useful information gets written to the Error Console.

That might help with diagnosing the cause of your issue.

Note that I use Lightning 0.9 all the time now and for me it has been a huge improvement over 0.8.

Gren.

I just downloaded and installed Lighting .09 onto my T'bird. None of my previous calendar events show up, though. Any reason why not? They all show up properly in Outlook.

Using RH4.0 with 11.4.2

Lightning 0.9 doesn't seem to work. You have to uninstall lightning .9, delete and recreate profile, reinstall lightning 0.8

Gren,

I enabled those two debug options and have tried re-adding the calendar, but I am getting the same error...and not any other clues. It appears to read lots of calendar data from the server and then outputs the errors below...
Warning: There has been an error reading data for calendar: s. However, this error is believed to be minor, so the program will attempt to continue. Error code: 0x80004005. Description: failed to retrieve item
Warning: There has been an error reading data for calendar: s. However, this error is believed to be minor, so the program will attempt to continue. Error code: READ_FAILED. Description:

Curious, what version of Thunderbird are you on and what platform?

Also, from the 11.4.2 release notes:
Support for Lightning/Sunbird with initial support for Lightning 0.9

Wondering if this is a Scalix issue or a Lightning issue?

I've been using Mac OSX Leopard with Thunderbird 2.0.0.17pre (20080813) against my production calendar day to day for about the last 2 weeks - although I do alternate a bit with iCal.app (actually, I mostly run both at the same time).

Prior to that I used Fedora 9 with Thunderbird and Lightning 0.9.

One of my colleagues is using Ubuntu with Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 and Lightning 0.9 - works fine for him.

I've just installed Thunderbird 2.0.0.17 under Windows XP with Lightning 0.9 - working fine.

Regards,
Gren.

Weird, I just opened a support ticket.
Are you also using 11.4.2 on the server side?

Based on some other posts, I suspect that if you started with lightning 0.9 you may be OK but if you initially used ver 0.8 then tried to upgrade you won't be?

I upgraded from Scalix 10 to Scalix 11- I haven't yet tried with accounts created since then.

As a reply to this, Bill and I have created a bug for this and it is currently in the process of being resolved.
The errors will still occur with even a fresh install of 0.9 (not just an upgrade).

Just downloaded the nightly build for Nov6th, and everything appears to work properly.

No error messages, my full calendar loads. Will update with anything I find.

Thanks for letting us know billb3 - much appreciated.

I'm still interested in what the root cause of the issue is and hopefully I will get a chance to research that further soon.

Regards,
Gren.
