deleted items missing

Postby rudi » Thu Aug 25, 2005 4:59 am

Hi,

I have the following problem: When I delete some objects in Outlook XP or 2000 this object move into the "deleted items" folder. But objects in the "deleted items" folder which are older than 3 days are deleted for ever automatic.

I don't use omtidyu or omtidyallu and also not auto archiving.

Do you know this problem?

Best regards,
rudi

What do you expect? Its a selfcleaning Wastebasket!
To be serious:
First be sure that your Outlook does not clean the delted items on exit.
Second set the general.cfg tweak UAL_NO_WB_EMPTY=TRUE as described in the AdminGuide on page 371.
Please have a look of the description to this tweak.

Regards,
Dirk

You can also configure (per user) the time items remain in Deleted Items before they are deleted.

omtidy*u does empty the waste basket, but it is also emptied when the client signs off, the tweak referenced stops this behaviour.

However, using Outlook right-click on Deleted Items and set the number of days you want to retain items for on the AutoDelete page.

You can "manually" configure this setting per-user on the server, but that's probably beyond the scope of this post.

Cheers,
JG

Configure deleted items on per user basis

Postby jillrae » Wed Jan 04, 2006 12:08 pm

We use the web access client and i need to configure the time before an auto-clean of the deleted items on one user (the boss, of course). I need to increase his time to 30 days instead of the default. How is this done?

Hi jillrae,

In /var/opt/scalix/sys there is a file called userconf. That file configures defaults for users as they are created. As a user is created that file is added to their /var/opt/scalix/user/gXXXXXX directory as 000002g with all of the comments stripped out. The default value to empty the deleted items folder is one day. You could change the userconf file to reflect 30 days but that only effects any new users.

To effect the change for existing users you'd have to modify each user's 000002g file in their gXXXXXX subdirectory. To determine the user's subdirectory use.

omshowu -n "user name/mailnode" -f

Look for the "User Folder" value.

At the top of the 000002g file you see...

1
# User Configuration File

1 1 <<<<edit this value. If you want 30 days change the 1 to 30.

Best wishes,
Don

The userconf file shows 1 as the Waste Basket option not 11

Postby deyjvu » Mon May 22, 2006 2:24 am

Just read this post and was going to change item 11 in the 000002g file of a user but the figure for this user was "110" which didn't make sense in the scheme of messages being kept in the Waste Basket.

I checked the ~/userconf file and it shows

# ConfigType=1 The default Waste Basket clearance time in days.
# This value represents how long a message will reside in
# The Waste Basket before it is eligible for deletion
1 1

# ConfigType=10 The default value for control of keeping a copy of
# mailed messages in the Waste Basket (0=OFF, 1=ON)
10 0

# ConfigType=11 A reserved value that holds the user's last signon date
# (as day-of-year number). Used to determine 1st signon of day.
11 0

So the reply above from Don that says to edit "11" to the number of days for holding messages in the Wastebasket is incorrect, it should be "1" that is changed.

Just wanted to correct this incase anyone else followed the instructions. Did this change at V10?
