Unable to edit users - SOLVED

Postby NextStep_MerchantServices » Mon Apr 17, 2006 12:56 pm

I have been using Scalix CE for quite a while now, and let me say, I love the product. Recently our mailserver was the victim of a rootkit and as a result had to be rebuilt(software not hardware). Upon comin to the site again for the first time in a while, I saw the announcement of the new release. The install wasn't quite as painless as the last version of scalix. On my first several install attempts in the final step where it would open the SAC on the local machine I got a 503 error... finally I chose to install only selected components of the system but still checked each one and the install finally worked.

This brings me to my real problem... I can create users without any trouble whatsoever, however when I attempt to edit any of the users' settings(account type, additional addresses, physical address, full name, etc...) I get an error that the user data could not be saved. The users which I am attempting to edit are either not logged in currently(as I know this will throw back the same error and would generaly not be good practice anyhow) or have never logged in to the system before. I am baffeled. None of the error logs seem to indicate a problem, any suggestions? I'm thinking maybe there are some file permission issues between the sxadmin user and the internal scalix user used to create the data. Please let me know! Thank you!

Update 2

Postby NextStep_MerchantServices » Tue Apr 18, 2006 6:07 pm

Ok, so here's the deal... I modified the sxadmin user with:

[root@choosenextstep ~]# ommodu sxadmin -c +mboxadmin
ommodu: The user was modified successfully

so now the output of 'omshowu' is as follows:

[root@choosenextstep ~]# omshowu -n sxadmin
Authentication ID: sxadmin
User Name : sxadmin /CN=sxadmin
MailNode : choosenextstep,com
Internet Address : "sxadmin" <sxadmin@choosenextstep.com>="sxadmin" <sxadmin@nextstepmerchantservices.com>="sxadmin"
System Login : sxadmin
Password : set
Admin Capabilities : YES
Mailbox Admin Capabilities : YES

Language : C
Virtual Vault : Enabled (default)
Mail Account: Unlocked
Last Signon : 04.18.06 12:07:26
Receipt of mail : ENABLED
Service level : 0
Excluded from Tidying : NO
User Class : Limited

After using 'omshowu' on a few other accounts I realized the 'User Class' variable is synonymous with the Premium/Standard User setting, so I know that's not an issue.

In an attempt to see if it's a problem with the sxadmin user I used the following:

[root@choosenextstep ~]# ommodu someotheruser -c +mboxadmin,+admin
ommodu: The user was modified successfully

Upon logging in to the SAC with 'someotheruser' and attempting to edit a user, it still throws the same error, "The user information could not be saved"

Sorry to keep reposting on my own thread, but I feel it's important to keep you guys up to date on what I've tried to rectify the situation. Please let me know if anyone has any further suggestions. Thank you

Solved

Ok, so it turns out that this issue was also related to another problem I was having that involved the Local Delivery Service to continually crash. The problem creeps up when you have approximately 512 (or more) characters for the internet address of the admin user. For the solution, please see the following thread: Local Delivery Service Failure - SOLVED.

Thank you to the Scalix Support Team for your help and effort that you all put in to open source community.
