Scalix Japan Formed; Award Winning Email and Calendaring Platform will be Localized, Sold and Supported in Japan
SAN MATEO, CA — November 6, 2006 — Scalix Corporation, the leading provider of Linux and open source-based email, calendaring and messaging for enterprises, today announced its expansion into the Japanese market with the creation of Scalix Japan. All of Scalix’s award-winning messaging products, including Enterprise Edition, Small Business Edition and Community Edition, will be localized, sold and supported in Japan starting in the first quarter of 2007.
“Japan is one of the world’s largest markets for IT products, and Japanese companies are increasingly turning to Linux and open source solutions,” said Glenn Winokur, Scalix’s CEO. “We are confident that in Japan we can replicate the success we’ve had bringing enterprise-class messaging to customers in the United States and Europe. The formation of Scalix Japan will accelerate our growth in this important market.”
Scalix will localize its products and documentation for the Japanese market, in addition to providing a Japanese language community forum, wiki, evaluation download site and other resources. The Scalix products already support multi-byte languages, and come with a localization kit for channel partners and customers. A pre-release Japanese version of Community Edition is available for download now on the Scalix Japan website: http://www.scalix.co.jp/
Expansion into Japan further demonstrates Scalix’s commitment to providing organizations around the world with a robust, field-tested Linux and open source alternative to the high cost of proprietary messaging and collaboration. Enterprises have deployed the Scalix Enterprise Edition and Small Business Edition in over 55 countries, another 60,000 have downloaded the Scalix Community Edition, and well over 1 million mailboxes are installed worldwide.
The Scalix messaging product has been widely recognized for offering innovations such as an AJAX-based web client, transparent, full-function Outlook compatibility, and a rich web services platform, while at the same time meeting very real customer needs for reliability, robustness, and lower cost of ownership. Scalix recently announced it is contributing portions of its source code to the open source community, allowing developers to further integrate and extend the Scalix messaging platform.
