Scalix Launches Low-Cost High-Function Linux Email and Calendaring Solution for Small Businesses

Provides Compelling Upgrade Path for Users of Scalix's Popular Community Edition Who Seek Low Cost Upgrade to Enterprise Functionality

SAN MATEO, CA — APRIL 3, 2006 — Scalix, the leading provider of email and calendaring on Linux, today announced the Scalix Small Business Edition, a low-cost version of its award-winning Enterprise Edition designed to meet the needs of small businesses. Small Business Edition offers many of the same features found in the company’s flagship Enterprise Edition, but at a price point that is more attractive for small organizations.

Like Scalix Enterprise Edition, the Small Business Edition includes the industry’s most robust third-party support for MS Outlook and Scalix Web Access, the company’s award-winning and fully featured AJAX web email client that combines the power of desktop email with the convenience of a browser. It also includes native support for Novell Evolution (enabling full-function email and calendaring on Linux desktops), unlimited POP/IMAP email access, GUI and command line administration, full group calendaring and scheduling and the optional Scalix Wireless Solution that supports Blackberry, Treo and Smartphone users. It differs from Enterprise Edition only in that it is a single server version of Scalix instead of multi-server, and it does not include other features typically required in larger businesses, such as support for 99.999% availability.

With the addition of Small Business Edition, Scalix now offers five versions of its messaging system to meet the varying needs of organizations. Scalix Community Edition is a free, unlimited use version ideal for cost-conscious organizations wanting to provide basic email and calendaring for users. Enterprise Edition is the industrial-strength version designed to meet the advanced email and collaboration needs of knowledge workers. In addition, the company also announced today Community Edition Raw, a version that allows technically savvy email administrators to extend Scalix Community Edition functionality, and an appliance kit which enables resellers to easily configure and deploy a complete hardware/software Scalix solution for non-Linux oriented customers.

Small Business Edition was released in large part due to the popular Scalix Community Edition, which has been downloaded more than 20,000 times since it was launched six months ago. Many users of Community Edition have asked if there was a lower cost way to take advantage of the higher end capabilities in Enterprise Edition. Small Business Edition was created to address this pent-up demand, and offers a compelling upgrade path for the thousands of organizations running Community Edition. It provides a license-key only upgrade and provides these additional capabilities over Community Edition: 50 premium users (instead of 25, that provide the full-function Outlook support with group scheduling), Exchange co-existence, ability to use the Scalix Wireless Solution and automated migration tools, one year software subscription and installation support.

"A major benefit of Scalix has always been that it can significantly lower the total cost of ownership of organizational messaging," said Glenn Winokur, Scalix’s chief executive officer. "Small Business Edition makes Scalix an even greater value for small businesses, as it provides them with world-class email and calendaring capabilities at a fraction of the cost."
