Scalix Enhances Support for Key Novell Infrastructure, Enabling VARs to Expand Novell Linux Server and Desktop Footprint in Accounts
Scalix Certified Interoperability with Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, eDirectory and Evolution Helps Resellers Provide Additional Novell Software and Services
SAN MATEO, CA — MARCH 20, 2006 — Scalix today announced that it has certified the interoperability of key Novell infrastructure components with Scalix software. Scalix has certified that Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9, Novell eDirectory and Novell Evolution work seamlessly with Scalix. As such, these products have been accepted into the ScalixReady program for messaging ecosystem interoperability. Scalix enhanced support for Novell software was prompted by market demand from Novell resellers that are helping customers make the transition to Linux. Their customers are searching for a Linux-based messaging solution with robust Outlook support, an advanced web client, and an easy migration path from legacy environments. The deployment of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 and eDirectory reinforces Novell usage at the core infrastructure level. Deploying Evolution via ScalixConnect and Scalix Web Access (an AJAX-based web client that combines the power of desktop email with the convenience of a browser) facilitates Linux desktop rollouts that obviate the need for Windows. Together, this enables resellers to expand the Novell Linux footprint in accounts.
"Novell is committed to helping customers achieve an open, secure and cost-effective IT environment, and Linux is an important lever for getting there," said Roger Levy, vice president and general manager of Open Platform Solutions for Novell. "Scalix enhanced support for Novell enables customers to deploy additional Novell Linux server and client products to achieve their desired computing environment."
Email systems are mission-critical and they are tightly integrated with other systems inside organizations. As Novell helps steer its customer base towards Linux, customers are considering deploying their messaging on Linux. Important requirements for many customers are that the messaging server provide native high-function Outlook support and a thin web client that can be easily deployed to a wide range of users, to reduce email administration hassles and costs. Towards this end, Scalix has successfully tested its software running on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9. The company has certified that Scalix software seamlessly integrates with eDirectory, such that the Novell directory can be the primary directory in a Scalix deployment for authentication and user email settings. Scalix has validated that ScalixConnect for Evolution (available as open source, downloadable from GNOME CVS at http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/evolution-scalix/) enables the email and calendar client to work well with Scalix, facilitating Linux desktop rollouts. All in all, the interoperability between Scalix and Novell infrastructure enables resellers to provide additional Novell products and services for their customers.
"Scalix's enhanced support for Novell provides customers with a solid Linux messaging solution," said Mat Clarke, Director, ITS Linux, a reseller of Novell and Scalix software. "It helps keep Novell users in the fold and it creates new opportunities for VARs to provide more Novell products and services".
"Novell users are excited about Novell's Linux direction and many of them are starting to go there," said Glenn Winokur, Chief Executive Officer, Scalix Corporation. "Our enhanced support for Novell is designed to help VARs ensure that Novell customers remain committed to Novell infrastructure and provides them with the opportunity to sell more Novell products and services into their accounts."
