Linux Email Leader Scalix Named Red Herring 100 Company For Second Consecutive Year

SAN MATEO, CA — MAY 11, 2005 — Scalix Corporation, the leading provider of Linux-based email and calendaring software, has been named as one of the Red Herring 100 Private Companies of North America. Scalix was also named to the list in 2004.

Scalix was chosen after the Red Herring's editorial staff rigorously evaluated more than 900 private companies through a careful analysis of financial data and subjective criteria, including quality of management, execution of strategy, and dedication to research and development.

"Five years after the dot-com bubble burst, innovation and entrepreneurship are thriving. The companies on this list are proof," said Red Herring editor-in-chief Joel Dreyfuss.

Scalix brings email and calendaring innovations to Linux, offering an alternative to proprietary messaging solutions. The richly-featured and highly reliable messaging platform blends with open and proprietary infrastructures, including Microsoft Exchange, Outlook and Active Directory to assure seamless migration with no end-user disruption. Its web email client, called Scalix Web Access, offers unmatched desktop-grade functionality and runs on a broad range of desktop platforms, including Windows, Linux, UNIX and Mac, giving customers the flexibility to use Internet Explorer or Firefox to access email, calendar and contacts.

The company's software is in wide deployment by customers in a broad cross-section of industry and government in North America, Europe and Asia/Pacific. Scalix and its software have won several industry awards, including best messaging solution at LinuxWorld in February. The Red Herring Magazine featured Scalix in its January 31, 2005 issue. Red Herring's lists of private companies are an important part of the magazine's tradition of identifying new and innovative technology companies and entrepreneurs. Companies like Google and eBay were spotted in their early days by Red Herring editors as those that would change the way we live and work. The company's industry conference, Red Herring Spring, will take place May 17-19 at the Monterey Plaza Hotel in Monterey, California.
