Scalix Brings Power of Open Source Community to Enterprise Email by Certifying Popular Messaging Related Components

ScalixReady for Open Source certifies messaging stack of open source components for use with the Scalix email and calendaring platform

SAN MATEO, CA — DECEMBER 14, 2004 — Scalix, known for its richly-featured enterprise email and calendaring system on Linux, today announced ScalixReady for Open Source, a certification program that ensures compatibility and interoperability with messaging-related open source components.

ScalixReady for Open Source gives organizations the assurance they need to tap the power of the open source development community for their email infrastructure. Open source is becoming widely known for helping IT organizations reduce their costs and achieving independence from the problems associated with traditional vendor relationships.

The first components certified to be ScalixReady — meaning they work seamlessly with Scalix’s email and calendaring system — include anti-spam, anti-virus, performance and availability monitoring, and real-time backup technologies. The ScalixReady for Open Source messaging stack is fully integrated and certified with the Scalix system in its entirety, using Scalix’s own test suites focused on cross-component compatibility and interoperability.

“Companies are increasingly looking for ways to take advantage of open source technology throughout their organizations, including their email system,” said Julie Farris, Scalix’s founder and chief strategy officer. “However, they want the assurance that these components will be compatible and interoperable end to end. ScalixReady for Open Source provides that assurance, giving customers the flexibility to leverage the growing range of email related open source components. Our goal at Scalix is to set the standard for validating, integrating, testing and certifying an open source messaging stack that delivers on our commitment to offer freedom of choice.”

“Companies are increasingly attracted to the freedom of choice, reduced cost and better reliability and security that open source and Linux can provide,” said Stacey Quandt, Senior Business Analyst for the Open Source Practice at the Robert Frances Group. “Companies like Scalix are helping to accelerate open source adoption in production environments by certifying a solid end-to-end email infrastructure.”

Scalix has certified the following components and will continue to certify additional open source and commercial components that work with the Scalix messaging server:

The ScalixReady for Open Source certification program involves testing and documenting the integration of open source components with the Scalix email and calendaring solution. In some cases, Scalix also provides the components and tools necessary to ensure a successful and seamless integration. Initial components certified were in response to customer demand and others will be added to the program.
