Scalix Closes $6 Million In Venture Financing from Mohr Davidow Ventures
Former Microsoft Executive, Sam Jadallah, appointed to Scalix Board of Directors
APRIL 22, 2004 — SAN MATEO, CA — Scalix Corporation, creator of a powerful email and calendaring platform based on Linux, today announced that it has secured $6 million in funding from Mohr Davidow Ventures (MDV). Combined with prior investments from Mayfield and New Enterprise Associates, the total amount invested in Scalix now stands at $19.2 million. New funds will be used to accelerate the company’s expansion into new geographies where demand for a rich messaging platform on Linux is growing. The company also announced the addition of Sam Jadallah to its board of directors. Jadallah is a general partner at MDV and has previously held a variety of executive management positions at Microsoft including vice president of worldwide enterprise sales.
“Scalix is a company with the right product at the right time,” said Jadallah. “Linux is fueling one of the most disruptive shifts in the software industry today. Reliable and scalable messaging, with full calendaring and scheduling, is the critical missing link for customers building out a Linux server infrastructure or considering Linux on the desktop. Scalix offers a powerful customer value proposition and is uniquely positioned to be the messaging leader on Linux.”
The company recently announced its expansion into Europe with the opening of an office in Germany and a network of value-added resellers. Scalix will use funds to bolster its sales and marketing efforts in Europe and other geographies where Linux adoption is thriving.
“Sam has been a trusted advisor to Scalix since the company’s founding,” said Julie Hanna Farris, Scalix’s CEO and founder. “Sam’s operating experience and market knowledge was a deciding factor in our decision to partner with MDV. Both Sam and MDV bring valuable strategic insight and deep operating experience to Scalix at an important time.”
Jadallah’s increased involvement as an investor and board member is timely as Scalix expands its presence in new markets. Jadallah, a long time Microsoft veteran, led worldwide marketing and sales efforts to commercial and academic customers. Jadallah also served as general manager of Worldwide Business Strategy reporting directly to Steve Ballmer and was general manager of Corporate and Developer Support, where he led the creation of the award-winning customer support programs for Microsoft's line of server and developer products.
