New Scalix Enhancements Let Enterprises Leverage Current Email and Calendaring Investments While Moving to Linux

New Scalix Messaging Platform offers plug and play integration and interoperability with BlackBerry, Microsoft Active Directory, Exchange and Outlook

LINUXWORLD, NEW YORK — JANUARY 21, 2004 — Scalix Corporation today announced a new release of its Linux-based messaging and calendaring server that allows companies to leverage the investments they’ve already made in email-related applications and services, while moving their underlying messaging platform to Linux.

This latest release provides BlackBerry support, as well as support for a wide range of enterprise security and directory infrastructure products, including Microsoft Active Directory. These enhancements represent an important addition to the Scalix platform. Customers benefit from an open and flexible system based on Linux which readily integrates with their choice of desktop, email clients, wireless devices, antivirus, anti-spam, security and directory products.

“Interest in Linux-based email and calendaring continues to escalate as CIOs grapple with reliability and scalability issues and CFOs start to quantify the cost of their current messaging systems,” said Julie Farris, Scalix’s CEO and founder. “One of their considerations is how they can move their email and calendaring system to Linux without scrapping the substantial investments they have already made in their overall messaging eco-system. The announcements we are making today move customers a significant step closer toward ensuring seamless and hassle-free interoperability in their infrastructure.”

Scalix, which offers the industry’s most robust email and calendaring platform on Linux, is fully compatible with existing messaging systems, such as Microsoft Exchange. Scalix minimizes the risk of end user disruption through a zero downtime migration process and by providing full-function support for popular email clients, such as Microsoft Outlook. This allows customers to eliminate administrative complexity and user retraining costs that typically accompany changes to a company’s email environment.

In addition to Microsoft Outlook and Exchange compatibility, the new Scalix Email and Calendaring Platform offers seamless integration with:

“The advantages of the Linux-based Scalix platform are significant, with a total cost of ownership (TCO) at half that of traditional messaging platforms and with unmatched reliability and scalability,” said Farris. “Companies should be able to enjoy these advantages without having to abandon the substantial investments they’ve already made in messaging-related infrastructure, services and applications.”
